NEW PARLIAMENTARY TERM KICKS OFF IN STRASBOURG
On 16 July, the 10th Parliamentary Term of the European Parliament started off in Strasbourg with the re-election of Roberta Metsola (EPP, MT) as President of the Parliament. On Thursday, MEPs re-elected Ursula von der Leyen as President of the European Commission, after having been nominated by the European Council at the end of June.

€7 BILLION CEF FUNDING IN SUSTAINABLE, SAFE AND SMART TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE
On 17 July, the European Commission selected 134 transport projects to receive over €7 billion in EU grants from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), the EU's instrument for strategic investment in infrastructure. This represents the largest call under the current CEF Transport programme.

GERMANY EXTENDS TRACK ACCESS CHARGE SUBSIDIES UNTIL 2028
The German transport ministry will extend track access charge (TAC) subsidies until 2028. TACs in Germany are set to increase by 16.2 percent later this year and into 2025. However, the size of future subsidies remains unclear.
