COM CALLS FOR ACTION TO INCREASE SSTPAS FOR PROFESSIONAL DRIVERS
The European Commission has published a report highlighting the persistent shortage of suitable parking areas for professional drivers across the EU. While parking areas certified under the EU standards for Safe and Secure Truck Parking Areas (SSTPAs) provide effective protection for drivers and vehicles, their number remains low.

ESAF EARLY MOVERS COALITION TO SCALE UP SYNTHETIC AVIATION FUELS
On 4 December, at the margins of the Transport Council in Brussels, Austria, Finland, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain launched the eSAF Early Movers Coalition, bringing together Member States committed to scaling up the production and uptake of synthetic aviation fuels (eSAF).

EC ISSUES 2025 CARBON MARKET REPORT
The European Commission’s 2025 Carbon Market Report, issued on 3 December, shows that maritime companies reported 89.8 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions for 2024, the first year the sector was included in the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS). The system now covers all emissions from voyages between EU ports and 50% of emissions from voyages to or from non-EU ports.

EFRAG DELIVERS TECHNICAL ADVICE ON SIMPLIFIED ESRS
On 3 December, the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) provided its technical advice to the European Commission on the draft simplified European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). CLEVER PROJECT LAUNCHES OPEN CALL FOR REAL-WORLD EMISSION FACTOR APPLICATIONS
The CLEVER project recently opened a call for organisations to demonstrate how its emission factors and methodology can be applied to real-world transport and logistics scenarios. The initiative aims to refine and standardise a framework for calculating GHG emissions, which will be integrated into the CountEmissionsEU regulation.

PROVISIONAL POLITICAL AGREEMENT ON DEFORESTATION REGULATION
CLECAT welcomes the provisional political agreement reached by the Council and European Parliament on the targeted revision of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The deal responds to widespread concerns from member states, industry and third countries about the readiness of companies and authorities, as well as challenges linked to the EU’s new information system.

EUROPEAN ASSOCIATIONS CALL FOR BUSINESS INVOLVEMENT IN EU CUSTOMS DATA HUB GOVERNANCE
CLECAT joined a coalition of 23 European trade and industry associations in signing a joint letter urging the Council and the European Commission to include business representatives in the working group on the European Customs Data Hub. The letter was sent today to the Danish Ambassador to the EU, with copies to senior leaders in DG TAXUD, DG Trade and the European Parliament.
