CLECAT welcomes steps to simplify Port Services proposal but calls for scope to be broadened
On 12 October the TRAN Committee discussed proposed amendments to the report on the proposal for a Regulation on Market access to port services and financial transparency of ports. CLECAT continues to regret that the scope of the Regulation has been reduced drastically.

Freight Stakeholders call for open dialogue on wagonload services
CEFIC, CEPI, CER, CLECAT, EFIP, ESC, ESPO and UIP have issued a joint position on wagonload transport which has been sent to the European Commission. The associations recall the urgency of taking action to prevent wagonload services from further decline. While market-driven solutions are crucial, policy intervention and support is also needed.

Customers call for capacity allocation for freight on EU Rail Freight Corridors
CLECAT, the European Association of logistics service providers and freight forwarders, and the European Shippers’ Council (ESC), representing cargo owners, have in a letter to the Commission expressed concern about the position of international freight along the corridors and the potential lack of capacity for international freight trains.

Transport industry and green groups join forces to inject competition into truck fuel efficiency
The IRU, EEA, Leaseurope, CLECAT, Green Freight Europe, The Northern Logistics Association, European Transport Board and T&E call on the European Commission to give a much-needed boost to competition on truck fuel efficiency, in a letter sent yesterday to Commission officials.

Open Letter to the Transport Council on 4th Railway Package Market pillar
At the start of the EU Luxembourg Presidency, CLECAT, ERFA, EPF, ESC, T&E and UIRR urge the Member States to strengthen their strategic and organisational role in a growth and customer-orientated rail system and to play a central role in driving its modernisation, through the removal of the remaining barriers in the Market pillar of the 4th Railway Package.

CLECAT welcomes EC action against Germany on minimum wage barriers in international transport
CLECAT has welcomed the recent decision of the European Commission to start infringement proceedings against Germany for the application of its minimum wage law (MiLog) on international road transport operations.

CLECAT welcomes pragmatic discussions on Ports Regulation
On 5 May, the European Parliament Transport Committee held an exchange of views on the proposed Ports Regulation, having suspended work on the proposal due to the elections of May 2014. The rapporteur, Knut Fleckenstein MEP, put forward a pragmatic position on the regulation.

CLECAT signs up to Open Letter on Athens Declaration
CLECAT together with a group of stakeholder’ associations in the maritime supply chain including ESPO, ECASBA, ECSA, ECS, ESN, ESPO, FEPORT, Interferry and World Shipping Council have send today an open letter to European policymakers. The associations are calling on the European Commission and Member States to work together to put in place practical, meaningful and effective solutions for the challenges of short sea shipping.
