WSC LAUNCHES CARGO SCREENING PROGRAMME TO FIGHT SHIP FIRES
Last week, the World Shipping Council, announced the launch of an initiative aimed at developing a software tool to detect undeclared (or misdeclared) dangerous container cargos and prevent deadly ship fires.

REGISTRATION OPEN: LOGISTICS FOR EUROPE 2023
On 16 November, CLECAT and ESC will host the Logistics for Europe 2023 event, entitled ‘’Partnering Compliance and Competitiveness in the EU - Is it Possible?’’ The event aims to facilitate a constructive dialogue among industry representatives from freight forwarding, customs agents, shippers, and European policymakers to address the challenges faced by the European industry.

EC CONFIRMS COMBINED TRANSPORT ADOPTION IN NOVEMBER
During the ENVI hearing in Strasbourg on 3 October, to approve Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič’s new role in leading the Commission’s work on the European Green Deal, Mr Šefčovič confirmed that adoption of the revision of the Combined Transport Directive would be published in November 2023.

NEW STAGE OF SANCTIONS PACKAGE AGAINST RUSSIA KICKS IN
The first stage of the import ban on iron and steel products originating in Russia but produced in third countries, will come into effect on 30 September as agreed in the Commission’s eleventh package of economic and individual restrictive measures to strengthen existing EU sanctions against Russia and prevent their circumvention adopted on 23 June.

EC PUBLISHES 2023 CEF TRANSPORT CALL FOR PROPOSALS
On 25 September, the European Commission launched a new call for proposals under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for Transport, worth €7 billion. This call aims to fund projects focused on enhancing European transport infrastructure.

ECJ RULES TRANSPORT OF EMPTY CONTAINERS NO LONGER COVERED BY CABOTAGE RULES

EEA AND CLECAT CALL ON THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION TO REVISIT AND POSTPONE CBAM IMPLEMENTATION REQUIREMENTS
