ITF PAPER ON RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN CONNECTIVITY, RESILIENCE AND DECARBONISATION OF FREIGHT TRANSPORT
The International Transport Forum (ITF) recently published a report evaluating the relationships between connectivity, decarbonisation and resilience in freight transport. Written by Alan McKinnon, the paper is the fourth in a series of ITF expert working papers, which first explored how to enhance each of the parameters separately.

MORE WORK NEEDED AT IMO FOR GLOBAL MARITIME DECARBONISATION MEASURES
Following the conclusion of the IMO Maritime Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) meeting held last week, member states of the International Maritime Organisation remain divided over the economic measures required to incentivise and accelerate the decarbonisation of maritime transport.

GEMINI WARNS OF POTENTIAL 'MELTDOWN' WHEN SUEZ REOPENS
This week, The Loadstar reported that Gemini carriers, including Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, are warning of an "operational meltdown" when the Suez Canal reopens for shipping traffic.

UK EXTENDS SAFETY & SECURITY DECLARATION WAIVER FOR EU IMPORTS
The UK’s Customs Authority, HMRC, has announced an extension for the waiver of the Safety and Security (ENS) declaration requirement for goods imported from the EU. Originally scheduled for implementation on 31 October 2024, the new date has been moved to 31 January 2025.

CLECAT PARTICIPATES IN 67TH PLENARY SESSION OF TRADE CONTACT GROUP
On 8th October, CLECAT participated in the 67th Plenary Session of the Trade Contact Group (TCG) held in Brussels. The meeting, chaired by Mr Matthias Petschke, Director at DG TAXUD, focused on key developments in EU customs and trade policy.
