CLECAT PARTICIPATES IN THE 101ST ECCG MEETING

CLECAT attended the 101st Electronic Customs Coordination Group (ECCG) meeting, held jointly with the Trade Contact Group on 28–29 November 2024 in Brussels. The event provided a platform for the European Commission, Member States, and trade representatives to discuss critical updates to customs and trade processes.

Key topics included the implementation of the Import Control System 2 (ICS2), progress on the UCC Centralised Clearance for Import (CCI), and updates on digitalisation initiatives such as eATA and eTiR. The Commission also addressed ongoing advancements in the Automated Export System (AES) and the New Computerised Transit System (NCTS). These discussions underscored the continued focus on enhancing the efficiency and digital transformation of customs processes across the EU.

Of particular significance was the Commission’s announcement of its intention to propose an additional 12-month extension to the UCC Work Programme’s AES transitional phase. This decision follows delays in the implementation of AES, as highlighted by France, and reflects CLECAT’s early advocacy for an extension to ensure trade continuity. The proposal, pending approval by the Director General of DG TAXUD, will require subsequent endorsement by Member States.
