EP ENDORSES REFUELEU MARITIME AND AFIR TRILOGUE AGREEMENTS IN PLENARY
On 11 July, during a plenary session in Strasbourg, the European Parliament endorsed the provisional agreements reached with the Council on two important components of the Fit for 55 package: RefuelEU Maritime and AFIR.

CLECAT COMMENTS ON DRAFT RULES FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF CBAM
CLECAT has posted its feedback to the draft reporting obligations during the transitional period of the carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM). Whereas CLECAT supports the CBAM mechanism as a way to address the risk of carbon leakage when production is moved abroad to avoid carbon pricing, CLECAT has concerns with the way the European Commission now seeks to implement the mechanism.

SLOW DEMAND AND POLICY INTERVENTION DRIVE D&D CHARGES DOWN
Over the past year, average detention and demurrage (D&D) charges dramatically fell by 25% and were below pre-pandemic levels for the first time in three years, according to the latest Container xChange’s annual D&D survey.

The European Commission has appointed long-term staffer Magda Kopczynska as the next full-time director general of its transport department, replacing Henrik Hololei who left the position in March.

AIR CARGO DEMAND REMAINS WEAK IN MAY
On 5 July, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) released data highlighting the weak market conditions in global air cargo markets for May 2023.
