PUBLIC CONSULTATION ON EU SLOT RULES OPEN
On 29 August, the European Commission published a call for evidence on the review of the EU Slots Regulation and launched a public consultation, which will remain open until 21 November. The objective of the review is to achieve fair access to, and efficient use of, airport capacity to ensure competition and enhance connectivity within, to or from the EU.

INTRA-EUROPEAN CONTAINER CAPACITY DROPS SIGNIFICANTLY
Shipping analyst Alphaliner released at the end of August figures on global trade deployment, highlighting that ship capacity has been redeployed to the most profitable routes, at the expenses of certain connections, especially intra-European routes.

WORKSHOP ON ALTERNATIVE CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE AT TRUCK PARKING AREAS
On 1 September, CLECAT participated in an online workshop on Alternative Charging Infrastructure at Truck Parking Areas, which was jointly organised by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) and the European Secure Parking Organisation (ESPORG).

CLECAT SUSTAINABLE LOGISTICS INSTITUTE MEETS
The CLECAT Sustainable Logistics Institute met on 30 August to exchange views on the latest developments regarding sustainability policies affecting transport and logistics at national and EU level. Members discussed the revision of the CO2 standards for heavy-duty vehicles, the future EU framework for calculating and reporting transport and logistics emissions, and the political developments related to the Fit for 55 Package.

BRUSSELS OUTLOOK

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has driven up the price of energy and other goods, increased fears about gas supplies, and cast a cloud over the economic outlook and recovery from the Covid-19 crisis. ITALIAN SUPPORT SCHEME FOR ROAD HAULAGE SECTOR AFFECTED BY WAR IN UKRAINE
On 11 August, the European Commission approved an amendment to an existing Italian scheme to support the road haulage sector in the context of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The amendment was approved under the State Aid Temporary Crisis Framework.

€30 MILLION SLOVAK SUPPORT SCHEME FOR MODAL SHIFT
On 4 August, the European Commission approved, under EU State aid rules, a €30 million Slovak scheme to encourage freight transport to shift from road-only to combined road-rail and road-inland waterway transport. The scheme, which will be funded through the Recovery and Resilience Facility (‘RRF'), will run until 31 December 2027.

JUNE AIR CARGO STABLE AND RESILIENT
On 3 August, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) released data for global air cargo markets showing healthy and stable performance for June 2022. Global demand, measured in cargo tonne-kilometres (CTKs), was 6.4% below June 2021 levels, whilst capacity was 6.7% above June 2021.
