SOLIDARITY LANES REMAIN VITAL FOR UKRAINE’S TRADE FLOWS
On 24 April, the European Commission published updated figures on the performance of the EU-Ukraine Solidarity Lanes, stressing their continued importance for Ukraine’s economy and connectivity. Launched in May 2022 the Solidarity Lanes aim to maintain trade flows via alternative transport routes - rail, road and inland waterways - to bypass the disrupted Black Sea corridors. Since their launch, the Lanes have facilitated trade valued at an estimated €211 billion, including €61 billion in Ukrainian exports and €150 billion in imports.
In March 2025, the Solidarity Lanes accounted for around 85% of Ukraine’s imports and supported the export of approximately 50% of non-agricultural goods. While the re-opened Black Sea corridor handled around 80% of Ukraine’s agricultural exports, the Solidarity Lanes still enabled the movement of roughly 20% of these products.
Beyond their critical short-term role, the Solidarity Lanes are also supporting Ukraine’s long-term integration into the EU Single Market.
