EC ADOPTS NEW TEMPORARY CRISIS AND TRANSITION FRAMEWORK
Last week, the European Commission adopted a new Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework, which aims to support measures in key sectors for the transition to a net-zero economy. For reference, this Communication prolongs and amends the State Aid Temporary Crisis Framework which was first adopted in March 2022 following Russian’s invasion of Ukraine.

On 14 March, the Air Freight Institute of CLECAT met to discuss legislative and non-legislative developments relating to the EU Aviation Acquis, as well as aviation security, sustainability, and digitalisation. In the afternoon, CLECAT’s Supply Chain Security Institute met to discuss developments in the area of land transport, aviation, and cybersecurity.

WTO FINDS GLOBAL TRADE REMAINS RESILIENT
A new WTO information note released on 23 February reports that global trade remained resilient and performed better than pessimistic predictions for 2022 as economies greatly affected by the war in Ukraine found alternative sources of supply.

AIR CARGO MAKES A SOFT START TO 2023
IATA released data for January 2023 global air cargo markets showing that air cargo demand declined as economic headwinds persist. Global demand, measured in cargo tonne-kilometers (CTKs*), fell 14.9% compared to January 2022 (-16.2% for international operations).

ITALY WANTS TO BECOME AN ENTRY-EXIT HUB FOR UKRAINE
The Italian northeast aims to becoming an entry-and-exit hub for Ukraine, which is facing blockades for transportation via the Black Sea. The facilities involved in this initiative are the ports of Trieste and Venice and the intermodal terminals in Padua and Verona.
