EP APPROVES RESOLUTION AGAINST RUSSIA’S SHADOW FLEET

The European Parliament in Plenary session adopted on 14 November a resolution calling for an EU crackdown on Russia’s shadow fleet, the increasing number of old tankers often uninsured and with unclear ownership allowing Russia to export its crude oil and petroleum products abroad, despite international sanctions.

EP PUTS ENDORSEMENT OF EC VICE-PRESIDENTS ON HOLD

On 12 November, the European Parliament held the last round of confirmation hearings with the six Commission’s Executive Vice-Presidents-designate, including Teresa Ribera, responsible for the Clean, Just and Competitive Transition, and Raffaele Fitto for Cohesion and Reforms. Commissioner-designate for Transport Apostolos Tzitzikostas will report to Mr. Fitto under this portfolio.

EU DEFORESTATION LAW: COMPLIANCE DEADLINE EXTENDED

The European Parliament has approved a one-year extension for companies to comply with the EU deforestation regulation, giving large operators until 30 December 2025 and micro- and small enterprises until 30 June 2026. The extension addresses concerns from member states and stakeholders about the feasibility of meeting the original timeline.
