CE DELFT STUDY ON PRICING INSTRUMENTS ON TRANSPORT EMISSIONS
At the TRAN meeting which took place earlier this week in Brussels, CE Delft presented a new study prepared for the European Parliament on the pricing instruments on transport emissions. The study provides an overview of the different pricing instruments on road transport CO2 emissions that are currently used in the EU, the main developments that are expected in this field and the impacts these instruments may have on the transport sector and society in general.

SAVE THE DATE – HIGH CAPACITY VEHICLES FOR SUSTAINABLE AND EFFICIENT ROAD FREIGHT
CLECAT will be present at the Transport and Logistics Munich on the 9th May with a side-event on high capacity transport for sustainable and efficient road transport. High-Capacity Vehicles (HCVs) have been introduced in various EU Member States or are being tested. These vehicles have been designed to operate on existing roadways with limited or no additional infrastructure investment.

EU ROAD TRANSPORT AGREEMENT WITH UKRAINE EXTENDED
On 1st January, the European Commission adopted a proposal (+ annex) for a Council Decision for the extension to the temporary road transport agreement signed with Ukraine. For reference, two agreements were signed by the EU with Ukraine and Moldova to allow Ukrainian, Moldovan and EU hauliers to transit through and operate between each other's territories, without the need for permits for these operations.

UPDATED CONSOLIDATED FAQS ON SANCTIONS AGAINST RUSSIA AND BELARUS
The European Commission has published this week an updated Consolidated version of FAQs concerning sanctions adopted following Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine and Belarus' involvement in it. The consolidated version includes FAQs on export-related restrictions, Imports, purchase and transfer of listed goods, transit of listed goods, and other relevant provisions.

EC PUBLISHES SECONDARY LEGISLATION FOR EUROPEAN MARITIME SINGLE WINDOW
The European Commission adopted today a Delegated Regulation and an Implementing Regulation related to the implementation of the European Maritime Single Window environment (EMSWe). The aim of the EMSWe Regulation, adopted in 2019, to facilitate maritime transport and support the industry by reducing the administrative burden linked to the mandatory reporting of information to authorities.

TRAN MEPS EXCHANGE OF VIEWS WITH SWEDISH PRESIDENCY
The TRAN Committee of the European Parliament had an exchange of views with the Swedish Minister of Infrastructure Andreas Carlson on the priorities of the Swedish Presidency earlier this week. Minister Carlson stressed the ambition of his government to conclude trilogue negotiations that are ongoing, including FuelEU Maritime, ReFuelEU Aviation, AFIR and the ITS Directive review.

ECB ARGUES FOR SYNERGY BETWEEN EU ETS AND CBAM
On 23 January, the European Central Bank (ECB) published a working paper arguing for more synergy between the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) and the new Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which was agreed to by co-legislators in December.
