CLECAT position paper on the Sustainable Transport Investment Plan
CLECAT welcomes the Commission's forthcoming Sustainable Transport Investment Plan (STIP) as a strategic opportunity to accelerate the decarbonisation of European transport, while safeguarding competitiveness and ensuring resilient, efficient supply chains.
Freight forwarders play an important role in linking shippers with global transport services across all modes. Our sector is therefore directly dependent on the availability, affordability, and reliability of sustainable fuels and the infrastructure to deploy them in aviation, maritime, and hinterland connections. This reliance means that investment decisions in fuel production and related infrastructure will impact the costs, operational choices, and competitiveness of freight services.
In this context, CLECAT considers that STIP should deliver a coherent, mode-inclusive investment framework that bridges the cost gap between conventional and renewable/low-carbon fuels, de-risks private investment through predictable policy signals, and ensures equitable access for all market participants to the solutions needed to meet EU climate targets.
