CLECAT position paper assessing the effectiveness of ZEV targets for road freight fleets
CLECAT welcomes the opportunity to respond to the Commission’s call for
evidence on the Clean Corporate Vehicles initiative. In particular, CLECAT
wishes to raise concerns on the potential proposal to introduce zero-emission
vehicles (ZEV) targets for corporate fleets of trucks and vans. While we support
the ambitious European decarbonisation goals, we believe that mandating ZEV
targets for corporate fleets is not the most effective means of achieving them.
This paper argues why ZEV targets may prove counterproductive, beyond the well-known
operational limitations (lack of adequate charging infrastructure, high
purchase prices). As outlined in our position
paper on the Clean Corporate Fleets initiative, CLECAT proposes alternative
measures to foster the transition to zero-emission road freight transport in a
way that reflects the operational realities in the logistics sector.
