EU ALLOCATES OVER €91 MILLION FOR SSTPA PROJECTS

On 3 July, the European Commission announced the results of the 2025 Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Transport call, awarding nearly €2.8 billion to 94 transport projects across the trans-European transport network (TEN-T). A key focus of this year’s funding round is the development of Safe and Secure Truck Parking Areas (SSTPAs) for road freight transport, with over €91 million allocated to such projects.

The EU co-funding will support the construction and upgrade of truck parking facilities in 10 Member States, with the aim of improving road safety, driver welfare and cargo security. The selected projects will deliver more than 3,400 parking spaces meeting EU security and service standards. These facilities will offer various security levels and services, including surveillance systems, sanitary amenities and digital booking tools, helping to reduce the use of informal and unsafe parking areas along key transport corridors.

The inclusion of SSTPAs in the CEF funding reflects their growing recognition as essential components of a modern, sustainable and resilient European transport system, contributing to improved driver safety and strengthening Europe’s transport network.
