DIGITALISATION WORKING GROUP MEETS
On 4 February, CLECAT’s Digitalisation Working Group met to exchange views on recent developments related to the electronic Freight Transport Information (eFTI) Regulation, including the state of play of implementation, remaining challenges and upcoming milestones.
Members received an update from the eFTI team in DG MOVE on the current state of play of eFTI implementation. Key implementation elements, including platform specifications, certification rules and technical guidance, are expected to be finalised progressively by 2026, supported by EU-funded projects such as eFTI4EU, eFTI4ALL and eFTI4LIVE. These projects which are piloting implementation of eFTI were highlighted as essential for identifying practical lessons and supporting a harmonised rollout across the EU, with the eFTI go-live date set for 9 July 2027.
Members raised questions regarding certification, interoperability and the relationship between eFTI platforms and existing eCMR solutions. The discussion highlighted the need to avoid market fragmentation and unnecessary duplication of requirements, while ensuring trust and interoperability. Members also underlined the importance of clear and timely communication towards industry, in particular SMEs, on timelines, obligations and investment needs related to the transition towards digital transport documentation.
