CLECAT RESPONDS TO EU CONSULTATION ON FAIR LABOUR

CLECAT has submitted feedback to the European Commission’s call for evidence on the Fair Labour Mobility Package. The initiative is relevant for the transport and logistics sector in view of the impact on how labour rules are designed and enforced in cross-border operations.

While the Commission aims to improve job quality and promote fair labour mobility, CLECAT underlined that the practical outcome of these initiatives will also be decisive for companies in terms of administrative burden, legal certainty and consistency of enforcement across Member States. From the perspective of freight forwarders and logistics service providers, the main challenge is not a lack of regulation, but the complexity and uneven application of existing EU rules.

CLECAT therefore stressed the importance of focusing future EU action on better implementation and enforcement of the current framework, supported by simplification and digitalisation, rather than introducing additional prescriptive measures. The consultations are also closely linked to broader structural challenges facing the sector, including persistent driver shortages, the role of subcontracting in international logistics chains and the need to make logistics professions more attractive.
