SUBCONTRACTING IN LOGISTICS: SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT

Following the recent publication of the European Parliament’s draft resolution on subcontracting in various sectors, the debate around the structure and functioning of logistics supply chains has intensified across Europe. While the concerns raised by certain road carriers are legitimate, including issues such as late payments, non-payment of waiting times, it is important to recognise that freight forwarders also face the consequences of these same dysfunctions within the market.

IMO MEMBER COUNTRIES SET TO VOTE ON NET-ZERO FRAMEWORK

On 14 October, member countries to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) will gather in London to formally adopt its Net-Zero Framework, a landmark regulatory proposal designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from global shipping. The framework, provisionally agreed in April, aims to establish a clear pathway for the maritime sector to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. Its adoption would represent a major milestone in international efforts to decarbonise shipping.

EP FORMALLY APPROVES TARGETED AMENDMENT TO EUROVIGNETTE

On 7 October, the European Parliament in Plenary session largely adopted the targeted amendment to the Eurovignette Directive, providing the possibility for Member States to exempt zero-emission trucks from road charges until June 2031. The decision aims to incentivise the adoption of cleaner vehicles by reducing operational costs for transport operators and accelerating the shift toward sustainable freight and passenger transport.
