CLECAT WELCOMES COMMISSION’S PROPOSAL TO REVISE COMBINED TRANSPORT DIRECTIVE

The European freight forwarders association, CLECAT, welcomes the European Commission’s new proposal on a revised Combined Transport Directive which was finally released on 7 November.

EC PUBLISHES FINAL LIST ON NON-EU TRANSHIPMENT PORTS FOR EU ETS

At the end of October the European Commission published the Implementing Regulation identifying neighbouring container transhipment ports according to the ETS Directive. The list remains unchanged compared to the previous draft issued mid-August, with Tanger Med (Morocco) and East Port Said (Egypt) which will be excluded from the definition of port of call in the ETS maritime, in order to avoid carriers’ evasion strategies from paying ETS allowances.

DIGITALISATION OF THE ATA CARNET – A NEW MILESTONE

The WCO reported this week that during the virtual joint session of the Administrative Committee for the Istanbul Convention and the ATA Convention on 2nd November 2023, delegates from over 60 Contracting Parties took significant strides towards digitalising the Carnet system for temporary admission of goods

GLOBAL AIR CARGO DEMAND GROWTH OF 1.9% IN SEPTEMBER

On 8 November, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported a 1.9% growth in global air cargo demand in September 2023 compared to the same period in 2022, with international operations experiencing a more substantial growth of 6%.

EP ADOPTS REPORT ON EURO 7

On 9 November, the European Parliament in Plenary session adopted its report to revamp EU rules for motor vehicle type-approval and market surveillance, known as Euro 7. The new regulation will update current limits for exhaust emissions (such as nitrogen oxides, particulate matter, carbon monoxide, and ammonia), and will introduce new measures to reduce emissions from tyres and brakes, and increase battery durability.

ECTA GENERAL MEETING

The European Clean Trucking Alliance (ECTA), of which CLECAT is a member, held its general meeting on 7 November in Brussels. Members gathered to discuss the main policy priorities and the 2024 work programme of the Alliance.
