COMMISSION DECIDES NOT TO EXTEND ANTITRUST BLOCK EXEMPTION FOR LINER SHIPPING CONSORTIA

The European Commission has decided not to extend the EU legal framework which exempts liner shipping consortia from EU antitrust rules (Consortia Block Exemption Regulation or ‘CBER'). The Commission has concluded that the CBER no longer promotes competition in the shipping sector and therefore it will let it expire on 25 April 2024.

CLECAT WELCOMES EC DECISION NOT TO RENEW CBER WHICH IS NO LONGER ‘FIT FOR PURPOSE’

In a press statement following the EC decision not to renew the CBER CLECAT notes that freight forwarders have long resisted the granting of these extraordinary exemptions to shipping lines and have opposed a renewal of the Block Exemption, especially in its present form, at previous reviews.

LOGISTICS FOR EUROPE 2023: PARTNERING COMPLIANCE AND COMPETITIVENESS IN THE EU – IS IT POSSIBLE?

ELP EVENT ON COUNTEMISSIONS EU

At the third event organised by the European Logistics Platform (ELP) this year, over 60 EU policymakers and industry stakeholders convened to discuss the CountEmissionsEU proposal as proposed by the European Commission and how measuring emissions support companies in making better informed freight transport decisions.

CLECAT SUSTAINABILITY INSTITUTE MEETS

Members of the CLECAT Sustainable Logistics Institute met this week in hybrid format to exchange views on the latest developments regarding sustainability policies affecting transport and logistics at national and EU level.

OCEAN SHIPPING DEMAND HISTORICALLY LOW

This week, shipping analyst Sea-Intelligence issued a report noting that the overall container shipping demand is historically low to global GDP, around -6.8% compared to a growth pattern which would have followed GDP growth.

UK HMRC POSTPONES ROLLOUT OF NCTS5

The UK HMRC has announced a postponement in the rollout of the New Computerised Transit System Phase 5 (NCTS5), initially scheduled for 16 November 2023.

EP ADOPTS DRAFT REPORT ON EURO 7

On 12 October, the European Parliament's Environment Committee adopted its draft report aimed at updating EU rules for motor vehicle type-approval and market surveillance, known as Euro 7.

COMPLETION OF THE FIT FOR 55 PACKAGE

On 9 October, the Council of the EU endorsed the revised Renewable Energy Directive and the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation, marking the final two components of the 'Fit for 55' legislative package designed to help the EU achieve its 2030 climate targets.
