START OF NEGOTIATIONS ON FIT FOR 55 PACKAGE FILES
Representatives of the European Parliament and the Council of the EU met this week to kick-start the negotiations of some transport-related files of the Fit for 55 Package, including the revision of CO2 standards for cars and vans, ReFuelEU Aviation and the revision of EU Emissions Trading System as regards aviation and CORSIA.

CONTINUED GROWTH OF RAIL FREIGHT IN NORWAY
Rail freight in Norway has been constantly growing over the past few years, as reported by Bane NOR, the Norwegian infrastructure manager, with the first half of 2022 demonstrating an 8% increase year-on-year. In addition, many Norwegian companies have already applied to rise their rail freight traffic by 30% compared to 2022. However, these applications need to be reviewed by Bane NOR to check whether the current capacity allows for such a leap.

FRANCE TESTS INCREASED LOADS FOR COMBINED TRANSPORT
On 25 July, France published a decree increasing the maximum authorised loads intended for combined transport from 42-44 tons to 46 tons as of 27 July, as part of an experiment that will last 18 months.

PUBLIC CONSULTATION ON EU SLOT RULES OPEN
On 29 August, the European Commission published a call for evidence on the review of the EU Slots Regulation and launched a public consultation, which will remain open until 21 November. The objective of the review is to achieve fair access to, and efficient use of, airport capacity to ensure competition and enhance connectivity within, to or from the EU.

INTRA-EUROPEAN CONTAINER CAPACITY DROPS SIGNIFICANTLY
Shipping analyst Alphaliner released at the end of August figures on global trade deployment, highlighting that ship capacity has been redeployed to the most profitable routes, at the expenses of certain connections, especially intra-European routes.
