EC AWARDS €424 MILLION TO ALTERNATIVE FUEL INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS

On 10 April, the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) announced the results of the Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Facility (AFIF) call, with 42 projects receiving more than €424 million of funding for the roll-out of alternative fuels supply infrastructure.

With this selection of projects, the AFIF, as part of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) will contribute to the deployment of 4,200 electric recharging points along the European TEN-T road network, 48 hydrogen refuelling stations for cars, trucks and buses and the electrification of ground handling services in 21 airports. The funding of these projects is coupled with financing from major financial institutions to achieve a higher impact of the EU grants.

The list of projects marks the fifth and last selection round of the first AFIF call which has granted over EUR 1.3 billion for the deployment of 26,396 electric recharging points, 202 hydrogen refuelling stations and the electrification of ground operations in 63 airports. A new AFIF call with a total budget of €1 billion for the 2024-2025 period is currently open, with the first submission deadline scheduled on 24 September 2024.
