MEPS TAKE STOCK OF AFIR IMPLEMENTATION
On 29 January, the European Commission presented a non-paper to the European Parliament's Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN) regarding the implementation of the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR). The Commission stated that while most Member States have met their charging point targets for light-duty vehicles, significant challenges remain in developing charging infrastructure for heavy-duty vehicles.

POLISH PRESIDENCY PRESENTS ITS TRANSPORT PRIORITIES
On 29 January, the Polish Minister of Infrastructure, Dariusz Klimczak, presented the transport priorities of the Polish Presidency to the European Parliament’s Transport Committee. Securing Europe from external threats is a key priority of the Presidency. The minister emphasized the need to strengthen the European transport sector against external risks, highlighting the importance of dual-use infrastructure for civilian and military applications, the protection of transport operators from attacks, and the critical role of cybersecurity in safeguarding transport systems.

IMPACT OF 'EVER GIVEN' BLOCKAGE ON MAERSK: $89 MILLION LOSS
The 2021 blockage of the Suez Canal by the containership Ever Given left a lasting mark on global logistics, particularly for Danish shipping giant Maersk. According to a recent European study "The costs of maritime supply chain disruptions: The case of the Suez Canal blockage by the ‘Ever Given’ megaship led by the University of Gothenburg and the Erasmus University of Rotterdam, the incident cost Maersk nearly $89 million in delays and rerouted shipments.
