EXITO PROJECT TO ADVANCE DIGITAL CONNECTIVITY IN EUROPEAN LOGISTICS
On 20 October, CLECAT participated in the kick-off meeting of the new Horizon Europe-funded EXITO project (Expanding future-ready transport and logistics digital InnovaTIon) in Genoa, Italy. The project brings together partners from across Europe to develop practical solutions for more efficient, secure and interoperable data exchange in freight transport and logistics.
Building on the EU Electronic Freight Transport Information (eFTI) Regulation, EXITO aims to extend digital information exchange beyond regulatory compliance. While eFTI establishes a framework for sharing regulatory transport information electronically with public authorities, the project will explore how this framework can also facilitate data exchange between logistics operators, shippers and other supply chain partners.
A central objective is to develop and test an eFTI-compliant logistics data space, together with digital services and connectivity solutions that enable different IT systems and platforms to exchange information securely. This is particularly relevant in a sector where fragmented systems, differing data standards and limited interoperability continue to create administrative burdens and inefficiencies.
Through real-life demonstrations in several European countries, EXITO will address practical challenges related to cross-border and multimodal transport, interoperability and data sharing. Particular attention will be given to SME participation, ensuring that smaller logistics companies can benefit from digital solutions without facing disproportionate technical or financial barriers. The project will also explore how improved data exchange can support sustainability reporting across supply chains.
With the eFTI Regulation scheduled to become fully applicable on 9 July 2027, EXITO comes at an important moment for European transport digitalisation. The project aims to help translate the regulatory framework into practical solutions that improve connectivity and efficiency across European supply chains.
