EC TAKES THREE MEMBER STATES TO COURT OVER EUROVIGNETTE

On 7 May, the European Commission decided to refer Bulgaria, Greece and Poland to the Court of Justice of the European Union for failing to transpose the Eurovignette Directive. The three Member States did not communicate the transposition of measures by the deadline of 25 March 2024.

The Commission issued formal notices on 23 May 2024 and reasoned opinions on 16 December 2024, allowing two months for responses and compliance with the Directive. Despite receiving calendars for adoption of transposition measures from Member States, no measures have been reported to the Commission before the deadline.

The Commission considers that the efforts to take necessary measures by the national authorities have, to date, been insufficient and is therefore referring the three Member States to the Court of Justice of the European Union, seeking the imposition of financial sanctions.
