Members of the CLECAT Sustainable Logistics Institute met this week in hybrid format to exchange views on the latest developments regarding sustainability policies affecting transport and logistics at national and EU level. Members discussed the publication of the CountEmissions EU proposal, the development of corporate sustainability reporting standards and the CO2 standards for heavy-duty vehicles.

A first exchange took place on the proposal setting an EU harmonised framework for the calculation and reporting of GHG emission form transport services – the so-called “CountEmissions EU.” In its policy response, CLECAT welcomes the proposal as a timely initiative enabling transport operators to accurately calculate, monitor and compare their emissions, facilitating behavioural change. Members also received an update on the latest version of the GLEC Framework 3.0, and the development of an Assurance Scheme by the Smart Freight Centre.

Members then received an update on the implementation of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), including the publication of the delegated act setting out the first set of European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). In July, CLECAT had provided feedback to the Commission to the draft act.

Finally, Members exchanged on the upcoming CLECAT policy initiatives related the revision of the CO2 standards for heavy-duty vehicles, in view of the upcoming votes in Parliament and Council over the next weeks. Members also took note of the finalisation of the Fit for 55 Package, with the remaining files including AFIR, FuelEU maritime or ReFuelEU Aviation being formally approved by both institutions.
