CLECAT SUSTAINABILITY INSTITUTE MEETS

The CLECAT Sustainable Logistics Institute met today to exchange views on the latest developments regarding sustainability policies affecting transport and logistics at national and EU level.

COUNCIL AND EP REACH AGREEMENT ON ENERGY EFFICIENCY DIRECTIVE

On 10 March, the European Parliament and the Council struck a deal on the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED), which was part of the Fit for Package presented by the Commission in July 2021.

EC GUIDES MEMBER STATES ON SUSTAINABLE URBAN MOBILITY PLANNING

On 8 March, the European Commission adopted a Recommendation which aims to help Member States to support their cities and towns in reducing transport emissions and improving urban mobility. The 430 major cities along the trans-European transport network (TEN-T) will receive support to develop their Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs).

FEEDER OPERATORS FACE PRESSURE FROM OCEAN CARRIERS ON INTRA-EU SERVICES

The Loadstar reported on 8 March that commercial feeder operators in Northern Europe face reduced transhipment demand, loss of significant business due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine as well as the increasing threat of ocean carrier customers operating their own services.

ITALY WANTS TO BECOME AN ENTRY-EXIT HUB FOR UKRAINE

The Italian northeast aims to becoming an entry-and-exit hub for Ukraine, which is facing blockades for transportation via the Black Sea. The facilities involved in this initiative are the ports of Trieste and Venice and the intermodal terminals in Padua and Verona.

FRAUNHOFER INSTITUTE LAUNCHES 2023 STUDY ON ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND GHG EMISSION INTENSITY OF LOGISTICS SITES

The research initiative, entitled GILA (German, Italian & Latin America consortium for resource efficient logistics hubs & transport) has launched the 2023 version of the Fraunhofer Institute market study related to energy efficiency and GHG emission intensity of logistics sites at global scale.

TRAN COMMITTEE EXCHANGES WITH DG MOVE ON DELAY EFTI DA

On the 1st of March 2023, the European Parliament's Committee on Transport and Tourism met to have an exchange with DG MOVE on the delay in relation to the Delegated Acts of Regulation 2020/1056 on Electronic freight transport information (EFTI).

AIR CARGO MAKES A SOFT START TO 2023

IATA released data for January 2023 global air cargo markets showing that air cargo demand declined as economic headwinds persist. Global demand, measured in cargo tonne-kilometers (CTKs*), fell 14.9% compared to January 2022 (-16.2% for international operations).

WTO FINDS GLOBAL TRADE REMAINS RESILIENT

A new WTO information note released on 23 February reports that global trade remained resilient and performed better than pessimistic predictions for 2022 as economies greatly affected by the war in Ukraine found alternative sources of supply.
