CLECAT MEETS CEDR IN VIENNA

CLECAT was invited to give a keynote presentation to the Conference of European Directors of Roads (CEDR) general board and workshop meeting in Vienna this week, hosted by the Austrian Ministry of Transport, holding the Presidency of CEDR this year.  In line with the European Green Deal, Austria has its presidency under the theme of “shaping green and smart mobility together”, focusing on the transport of goods and multimodal logistics chains. CLECAT welcomed the opportunity-to strengthen the cooperation with the road authorities to support and secure supply chains and to make road transport greener.

In a joint presentation with Oliver Wagner, Manager Director of Zentralverband Spedition & Logistik, Nicolette van der Jagt, Director General of CLECAT, outlined the main challenges for the European freight forwarding sector, with a focus on decarbonisation of logistics, supporting efficiency with intelligent solutions and digitalisation, securing logistics supply chains and importantly, fair and pragmatic rules and regulation whilst keeping the single market.

Following the presentation, CLECAT had the opportunity to join various round table discussions on a) multimodal cooperation opportunities and the digitalisation of hubs, b) realistic alternative propulsion technology scenarios for heavy traffic and c) emerging technologies for multimodal logistics chains, like blockchain and d) opportunities and obstacles in implementing the Fit for 55 package.

CEDR and CLECAT will seek to work on the conclusions of the discussions before Summer and bring the joint work forward for further cooperation.
