AIR CARGO DEMAND INCREASES IN NOVEMBER

On 9 January, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported that the global air cargo markets in November 2023 experienced the strongest year-on-year growth in roughly two years.

Global demand for air cargo, measured in cargo tonne-kilometres (CTKs), increased by 8.3% compared to November 2022. Capacity, measured in available cargo tonne-kilometres (ACTKs), was up 13.7% compared to November 2022, which was attributed to the increase belly capacity related to the post-COVID recovery of international passenger markets. On top of that, the performance of European carriers was positive, with cargo volumes increase of 6.7% in November compared to the same month in 2022, with capacity increasing of 6.5% in November 2023 compared to 2022.

Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General, highlighted that November air cargo demand was the fourth month of positive market development, indicating such data to be an encouraging year-end for air cargo despite the economic concerns throughout 2023.
