2024 ESPORG SECURE TRUCK PARKING CONFERENCE

MEP’s, the European Commission, European industry representatives and truck parking companies discussed this week at the ESPORG Conference in the European Parliament the challenges and opportunities associated with establishing a European network of Safe and Secure Truck Parking Areas (SSTPAs).

EP PREPARES TO VOTE ON W&D NEXT WEEK

In anticipation of the Plenary vote on the revision of the Weights & Dimensions Directive which will take place on 12 March, CLECAT issued voting recommendations reflecting its position according the amendments tabled for the Plenary vote.

TRAN-ENVI ADOPT REPORT ON COUNTEMISSIONS EU

On 4 March, MEPs from the TRAN and ENVI committees adopted their report on the Commission’s proposal aiming to establish a common European framework for calculating GHG emissions of transport operations in the freight and passenger transport sector, the so-called CountEmissions EU initiative.

EP QUESTIONS EC PROPOSAL ON COMBINED TRANSPORT DIRECTIVE

On 1 March, Rapporteur Massimiliano Salini MEP (EPP, Italy) published a working document on the Commission’s proposal on the revision of the Combined Transport Directive.

TRAN COMMITTEE APPROVES DRAFT REPORT ON RAIL CAPACITY REGULATION

On 4 March, the Transport and Tourism (TRAN) Committee of the European Parliament adopted its report on the Commission proposal on new rules setting the conditions on the planning and allocation of railway infrastructure capacity in the EU.

EC PROPOSES EXTENSION OF ROAD TRANSPORT AGREEMENTS WITH UKRAINE AND MOLDOVA

On 5 March, the Commission proposed to extend the road transport agreements with Ukraine and Moldova. These agreements grant bilateral transport rights to Ukrainian, Moldovan and EU hauliers in each other’s territories. On the same day, the Commission expressed its intention to update the EU-Ukraine agreement.

EP AND COUNCIL AGREE ON SINGLE EUROPEAN SKY

After a decade of negotiations MEPs and the Belgian Presidency of the Council reached a provisional agreement on new EU rules to optimise flight routes, reduce flight delays and cut CO2 emissions. The Single European Sky (SES) agreement aims to enhance performance, organisation and management of European airspace while reducing CO2 emissions.

AIR CARGO DEMAND INCREASES IN JANUARY

On 5 March, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported a robust start to the global air cargo markets in January 2024.
