EU DAG MEETS TO DISCUSS EU-UK TCA IMPLEMENTATION

On 5 September, CLECAT attended the fourth meeting of the EU Domestic Advisory Group (DAG) under the EU-UK TCA, which was held in hybrid format. The Group is an independent body, advising the EU Commission on the TCA implementation. The DAG held an exchange of views with DG TRADE on the state of play of the implementation of the TCA and launched the preparations for the upcoming meetings of the EU and UK DAGs, and Civil Society Forum at the beginning of October.

The Commission joined the DAG meeting to provide feedback on some of the issues flagged by the DAG earlier this year. The list of transport- and customs-related issues, which was developed by the transport sub-group of the DAG, of which CLECAT is a member, was addressed in more detail. Among others, the Commission confirmed its ongoing efforts towards closer cooperation with the UK HMRC, and continuous monitoring of relevant developments at the border to ensure that the movement of goods is facilitated as much as possible. The Commission said that currently, it does not foresee further cooperation in the areas of safety and security and SPS. Members of the DAG were also informed on developments concerning AEO, Single Window and commitments towards data harmonisation.

In the early days of October, the EU DAG will meet for the first time with its UK counterpart to exchange on possible future cooperation and prepare a joint statement on the implementation of the TCA and improved EU-UK partnership.
