CLECAT Position Paper on Proposal for EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism
CLECAT is supportive of the European Green Deal and its ambition to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. The European Commission’s proposal on EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), as part of the Fit for 55 package, addresses the need to preserve the integrity of the EU’s climate targets. It aims to protect EU businesses from environmental dumping and ‘carbon leakage’, which can undermine EU’s efforts when production is moved abroad to avoid carbon pricing.
CLECAT notes, however, that there are several challenges for the successful implementation of the CBAM that need careful navigation. In its position paper on the CBAM proposal, CLECAT provides a comprehensive overview of the European intermediary sector’s main considerations and outstanding questions.
