CLECAT FFF2012 debates “Balancing facilitation and Security in Global Supply Chains"

CLECAT, the European Association for forwarding, transport, logistic and Customs services, is to hold its 12th annual event on Thursday 29th November in Brussels.  Under the theme “Balancing facilitation and security in Global Supply Chains”, the Forum will debate a number of important developments in supply chain security that require changes in business practices from all involved parties in the supply chain.

Nicolette van der Jagt, Director General of CLECAT said  “The risk of attacks by terrorists and other criminals against our cargo supply chains remains an enduring concern. Crime alone, within supply chains costs business billions of euros each year. At the same time the cost of preventative security for the private sector has increased hugely. This is too much to be taken lightly."

She continued: "Security of supply chains remains an important issue for our members who, in their efforts to deliver the best possible service to their customers, will do everything within their means to address the gaps in supply chain security and remove the opportunities for illegal profiteering and theft.  At the same time efficiency and optimising supply chains is a key business priority; so we must ensure that the parts of the supply chain that are most vulnerable to attack by terrorists, criminals or anyone else seeking to interrupt, are properly protected in the most cost effective manner. “

The Forum will debate in three sessions a number of important issues industry is faced with including:

  • Securing door-to-door Supply Chains in Europe: What initiatives can be taken by the EU to reduce the economic costs of crime without impeding trade?
  • Will the signing of the Mutual Recognition Agreement between the European Union and United States carry substantial benefits for companies operating under the Authorised Economic Operator Scheme?
  • Should risk management for border protection purposes be separated from risk management for other customs and tax related purposes?
