CLECAT alarmed by restrictions imposed by TRENITALIA for transport of hazardous goods

This unilateral announcement of Trenitalia to introduce its own safety management system will be extremely disruptive to the supply chain of many companies which rely on rail freight to transport dangerous goods. Many of these companies have no alternative to rail freight as strict legislation on the transport of dangerous goods in some countries such as Switzerland would not allow them to use road freight.

The EU Directive regarding safety on national railways that introduced the concept of ECM will only become mandatory on the 1st May 2013. CLECAT calls on the European Commission to ensure a timely and correct implementation of European legislation.
