WINTER SEASON SLOT RELIEF ENTERS INTO FORCE
On 30 October, the Delegated Regulation providing for a temporary modification of the use-it or lose-it rule at EU airports within the EU Slot Regulation for the Winter Season 2021/2022, running from 31 October 2021 until 26 March 2022, entered into force.
The amendment to the EU Slot Regulation, which was adopted by the Commission on 23 July 2021, foresees that instead of the normal requirement to use at least 80% of a given slot series to retain historic rights in those slots, airlines will only have to use 50% of a given slot series.
For the Summer Season 2021, the Commission is empowered to adopt, where strictly necessary in order to address the evolving impact of the COVID-19 crisis on air traffic levels, a further delegated act to amend the percentage values within a range between 30-70%. Such a delegated act would have to be adopted no later than 31 December 2021.
