UPCOMING DANISH COUNCIL PRESIDENCY PUBLISHES PROGRAMME
On 20 June, the upcoming Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU published its programme for the second half of 2025, setting out its priorities in the field of transport.
The Presidency aims to advance the green transition in European transport by reaching a general approach on the revision of the Weights and Dimensions Directive and securing a final agreement with the European Parliament on CountEmissionsEU. On cross-border mobility, the Presidency will seek to conclude negotiations with the Parliament on the Rail Capacity Regulation.
In the maritime sector, the Presidency will continue discussions on the Maritime Industrial Strategy and support the adoption of the IMO Net-Zero Framework at the International Maritime Organization in October 2025. It will also initiate discussions on the EU Ports Strategy, with the objective of supporting the green transition of European ports, strengthening competitiveness, and encouraging private investment.
The Danish Presidency will engage in discussions on potential legislative proposals in the transport sector in the context of the next Multiannual Financial Framework, post-2027.
