UKRAINIAN RAILWAYS TRANSPORTED OVER 150 MILLION TONNES OF CARGO IN 2022

Ukrainian Railways transported more than 150 million tons of cargo last year, a drop of 52,1 per cent compared to 2021. Despite the considerable decrease the company considers the results positive, highlighting that grain transport volumes have remained relatively high. All types of cargo dropped, but that grain export volumes dropped the least compared to 2021, with a decrease of only 14.2 per cent. Almost 29 million tonnes of grain were transported via western border crossings. Overall, volumes decreased in the last month of 2022 due to Russian military attacks to the country power grid and infrastructure that forced Ukrailiznytsia to slow down their trains.

The EU-Ukraine Solidarity Lanes Action Plan issued in May by the European Commission was key in helping Ukraine to exports its agricultural produce blocked in the Black Sea.
