UK EXTENDS SAFETY & SECURITY DECLARATION WAIVER FOR EU IMPORTS
The UK’s Customs Authority, HMRC, has announced an extension for the
waiver of the Safety and Security (ENS) declaration requirement for goods
imported from the EU. Originally scheduled for implementation on 31 October
2024, the new date has been moved to 31 January 2025. This extension also
applies to the introduction of a reduced ENS declaration dataset and the first
release of the Single Trade Window to support Safety and Security
functionality, which have also been postponed until January 2025.
In a communication sent directly to CLECAT, HMRC explained that the decision followed close collaboration between HMRC officials and Ministers, taking into account industry feedback on the time needed to prepare for the new requirements.
HMRC has committed
to providing further details in the coming weeks and will begin engaging with
key stakeholders shortly to arrange more detailed readiness sessions. One such
engagement has already taken place with CLECAT’s Customs and Indirect Taxation
Team on 10th October, with more detailed information to be shared with CLECAT
members in the coming days.
