SMART FREIGHT CENTRE PUBLISHES GLEC FRAMEWORK 3.0

This week, the Smart Freight Centre unveiled the version 3.0 of the Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC) Framework, an updated method to calculate the carbon footprint of the global logistics supply chain, in full alignment with the new ISO 14083 standard.

Launched in 2016, this industry guideline was the first globally recognised methodology to calculate logistics GHG emissions and offer multinationals and their suppliers a harmonised, efficient and transparent way to calculate and report logistics emissions. The GLEC Framework was a core element used to develop the content for the new ISO 14083 standard on the quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions of transport operations, published in March 2023. CLECAT has been involved in the work of GLEC since the very beginning and contributed financially to the developments of the ISO standard.

The version 3.0 of the GLEC Framework incorporates the methodologies of the ISO standard to support companies implementing transparency on the efficiency of their supply chains and logistics. It offers an easy-to-use approach to an ISO 14083-compliant calculation of GHG emissions from transport, covering the transport itself as well as logistics hubs and the emissions from the energy supply to them both.
