POLAND AND UKRAINE SIGN AGREEMENT TO DEVELOP RAIL FREIGHT TRANSPORT

On 28 August, Polish and Ukrainian railways reached an agreement to collaborate on the development of freight transport between the two countries, with the goal of enhancing connectivity and trade. The agreement was formally signed by the Polish operator "Polskie Koleje Państwowe Spółka Akcyjna" (PKP SA) and JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" (UZ).

Mr Evgeny Lyashchenko, Chairman of the Board of UZ, emphasised that this agreement represents a significant milestone in strengthening the partnership and promoting the growth of railway transportation between Ukraine and Poland. Both countries are committed to enhancing border infrastructure and expanding freight traffic, which is expected to have positive economic outcomes for both railway companies as well as their respective national economies.

Additionally, the two national railways have agreed to collaborate further on initiatives related to railway infrastructure management and passenger transport. Joint working groups will be established to facilitate negotiations for these separate agreements.

Freight traffic involving locomotive traction between border stations in both directions will be managed by locomotives and crews from both railway operators, ensuring a 50/50 participation.
