NEW STAGE OF SANCTIONS PACKAGE AGAINST RUSSIA KICKS IN

The first stage of the import ban on iron and steel products originating in Russia but produced in third countries, will come into effect on 30 September as agreed in the Commission’s eleventh package of economic and individual restrictive measures to strengthen existing EU sanctions against Russia and prevent their circumvention adopted on 23 June. 

The new rules will impact iron and steel products derived from raw materials listed in Annex XVII but excluding semi-finished products falling within CN codes 7207 11, 7207 12 10, or 7224 90. Proof of origin for the raw materials must be available at the time of importing all products. On 23 September the European Commission has issued a Frequently Asked Questions. Changes will be incorporated into the European Union's Integrated Tariff (TARIC) as of 30th September 2023. Next stages of implementation are due on re on 1 April 2024 and 1 October 2024.
