LOGISTICS FOR EUROPE 2024: RETHINKING SUPPLY CHAINS

On 19 November, CLECAT and the European Shippers Council (ESC) will host the third annual Logistics for Europe event, bringing together key stakeholders at the Representation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia to the EU. Under the theme "Rethinking Supply Chains," the conference aims to facilitate discussions among shippers, freight forwarders, logistics experts, and EU lawmakers on addressing the pressing challenges facing European logistics. The event will debate the crucial need for ongoing innovation and collaboration across the logistics sector to ensure that Europe remains competitive and sustainable.

Keynote presentations will include insights from Fotini Ioannidou, Director of the Waterborne Directorate at DG MOVE, and Prof. Dr. Indra Vonck, Partner at MTBS, who will address the complexities facing global trade and the impact on the maritime supply chain.

At the ‘Future-Proofing EU Policy’ panel, policy makers will delve into the geopolitical challenges impacting the logistics sector. With Elisabeth Werner, Deputy Director-General for Policy Coordination at the European Commission, Mika Aaltola, MEP and Tomas Arvidsson, member of the EESC, this session will explore policy measures needed to secure a sustainable and resilient future for EU logistics and trade.

Klaus Dohrmann, VP of Global Innovation and Trend Research at DHL, will present how AI and technological advancements can enhance supply chain resilience and adaptability in a rapidly changing global landscape. 

This will be followed by a panel on "Innovation and Collaboration for Secure and Agile Supply Chains" will address increasing security threats within logistics networks, from cyber risks to criminal exploitation. Frank Heijmann from the Dutch Permanent Representation to the EU, Professor Albert Veenstra from Erasmus University, and Enrika Naujokė, CEO of CustomsClear, will discuss collaborative strategies and technological innovations to strengthen supply chain security.

Finally, the session on "Rethinking Supply Chains to Support EU Business" will focus on the dual pressures of regulatory compliance and sustainable growth. With perspectives from Avra Tzeveleki of CEVA Logistics, Katja Idsinga-Schellaars of TEVA and Nancy Lindenhovius from Wilmar Europe Holdings, and Luc Pfennings from KPMG Netherlands, the panel will explore how logistics companies can adapt to greening compliance requirements without compromising operational efficiency.
