ICCT-RAP STUDY ON THE ELECTRIFICATION OF DELIVERY VEHICLES

On 16 June, the European Clean Trucking Alliance released a report conducted by research institutes Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP) and the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) on the state of electrification of delivery vehicles in Europe. The study shows that electric trucks can reach price parity already today with diesel trucks but will need well-designed purchase incentives.

The study compares the total cost of ownership (TCO) of last-mile battery electric trucks (BET) with diesel truck fleets and then provides policy recommendations to overcome the TCO gap between battery-electric trucks and their diesel counterparts. Last-mile delivery trucks represent a significant share of the heavy-duty vehicles (HDV) sales volume in Europe. The remarkable growth in the E-commerce industry worldwide makes them a significant segment to decarbonise. Given their low driving mileages and planned-ahead schedules, last-mile delivery trucks present a promising application for electrification.

The study outlines a recommended set of policy measures to support electric trucks. A full breakdown of the fixed and operational cost modelling, breakdowns per city, key findings and action points are included in the study attached.
