IATA LAUNCHES SAF MATCHMAKER PLATFORM TO FACILITATE SUSTAINABLE FUEL PROCUREMENT
On 26 June, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) launched the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Matchmaker platform, a new digital tool aimed at facilitating connections between airlines and SAF producers. The platform is designed to streamline the procurement process by matching requests for SAF supply with available or planned offers, allowing parties to move negotiations offline and agree on specific commercial terms.
The initiative aims to enhance efficiency, connectivity and visibility in the SAF market, enabling faster and easier contact between buyers and sellers without additional fees. SAF producers can post details of available or expected volumes, while airlines register interest in purchasing specific or indicative quantities. Transactions take place outside the platform once a match is made.
To improve market transparency, the platform includes information on SAF offers such as feedstock, production location and technology, expected emissions reductions, and compliance with regulatory frameworks including the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) and the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED).
The platform supports both spot purchases and long-term offtake agreements. It is currently available to airlines and SAF suppliers, with plans to open access to other SAF buyers in the future.
