FRAUNHOFER INSTITUTE LAUNCHES 2023 STUDY ON ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND GHG EMISSION INTENSITY OF LOGISTICS SITES

The research initiative, entitled GILA (German, Italian & Latin America consortium for resource efficient logistics hubs & transport) has launched the 2023 version of the Fraunhofer Institute market study related to energy efficiency and GHG emission intensity of logistics sites at global scale.

More than 600 sites have been analysed in the previous surveys conducted over the last years. Participating companies received their own annual carbon footprint, emission intensity values as well as a comparison within their own site category cluster. Results of the 2022 market study are available via this link.

With the expected publication of the ISO 14083 standard this month, the market study will support the industry in implementing the ISO standard regarding sites such as warehouses, distribution centres, transhipment sites, and terminals; examining (i) consumption and GHG emissions related to the site as well as to the activities performed, and (ii) the solutions in use to reduce the environmental impact. More information is available on a dedicated website, as well as an online tool to calculate GHG emissions of logistics site.

In case of interest, it is possible to request access to the online tool and the market study by sending an email to contact-reff@iml.fraunhofer.de.The data will be treated confidentially and processed in an aggregated way. Participating companies receive their individual result as well as overall outcomes of the global study. Data collection is ongoing and will be concluded by the end of May.

In case of any questions, please contact Kerstin Dobers, coordinator of the market study or Jan-Philipp Jarmer by using contact-reff@iml.fraunhofer.de.
