EU ADVANCES MILITARY MOBILITY PACKAGE TO BOOST RESILIENCE AND DEFENCE READINESS

On 12 June, the European Commission and the EU’s High Representative launched preparations for a new Military Mobility Package aimed at improving the swift and seamless movement of military troops, equipment, and assets across the EU and beyond. It forms part of broader efforts to strengthen the EU's defence readiness, following the publication of the Joint White Paper for European Defence Readiness 2030The initiative seeks to ensure that logistics infrastructure is fit for dual-use – civil and military – thereby enhancing defence readiness and the resilience of supply chains.

The upcoming package will address existing infrastructure bottlenecks, procedural barriers, and capability gaps. It is expected to define strategic objectives, harmonise national procedures, and strengthen the resilience of key transport infrastructure. These measures will facilitate military mobility across Europe while aligning with broader EU policy objectives in areas such as transport. To support this, the Commission launched a call for evidence and a targeted stakeholder consultation, running from mid-June to the end of August 2025, with the aim of shaping the content of the package.

CLECAT welcomes the EU’s continued commitment to strengthening defence preparedness and infrastructure resilience. However, it emphasises the need for transparent and coordinated planning, particularly in the designation of “hotspot” corridors and the possible reservation of capacity. CLECAT will remain engaged to ensure that logistics infrastructure is fit for dual-use—civil and military—while maintaining the smooth flow of commercial freight.
