ESPORG LAUNCHES VOLUNTARY GREEN CERTIFICATION FOR SAFE AND SECURE TRUCK PARKING AREAS
ESPORG has launched a new Voluntary Green Truck Parking Standard, together with a voluntary certification scheme to audit and certify safe and secure truck parking areas across Europe. The initiative aims to assess and demonstrate the environmental performance of truck parking facilities and their contribution to greener road freight transport.
Developed in close cooperation with DEKRA and ESPORG members, the new green standard builds on the existing EU Safe and Secure Truck Parking Area (SSTPA) Standard by adding a comprehensive sustainability layer. It provides parking operators with a structured framework to establish, improve, monitor and demonstrate their sustainability performance in a transparent and comparable manner.
Eight leading truck parking operators in four European countries have already been audited and certified under one of the four levels of the green standard, illustrating the sector’s readiness to engage proactively in the green transition of road freight transport.
The certification is based on a points system (up to 75 points in total), with parking areas classified into four levels, symbolised by green “leaves”, ranging from Green Parking to Excellent Master Green Parking. Higher scores reflect stronger performance across sustainability, environmental management and future-oriented infrastructure criteria.
CLECAT welcomes the initiative as a positive step towards more sustainable and professional road freight infrastructure.
