ENISA REPORT SHOWS CYBERSECURITY IMPROVEMENTS IN TRANSPORT SECTOR

On 28 May, the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) published its annual assessment of cybersecurity maturity across key sectors, indicating that the transport sector made overall progress in 2025 despite persistent challenges in certain modes.

According to the report, the aviation sector recorded the strongest performance, advancing from a moderate to a high level of cybersecurity maturity. ENISA attributes this progress to more advanced risk management practices and a more consistent implementation of security measures across the sector.

The road transport sector also improved its cybersecurity maturity, supported by the introduction of international cybersecurity requirements for vehicles and the development of established engineering standards. In contrast, the rail and maritime sectors continue to be assessed as having a moderate level of cybersecurity maturity, despite some progress. ENISA notes that both sectors continue to face challenges linked to limited human and financial resources.

The report also identifies supply chain security as a key area requiring further attention. According to ENISA, visibility across supply chains remains a challenge, highlighting the importance of integrating cybersecurity requirements into procurement processes and supplier management practices.

The report calls for more frequent cybersecurity exercises, stronger cooperation between transport modes and continued efforts to enhance resilience across the transport ecosystem.
