ENISA REPORT ON CYBERSECURITY THREATS IN 2024

On 19 September, the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) released its 2024 Threat Landscape report, noting that transport remained one of the most targeted sectors by cyberattacks in the EU.

The transport sector accounted for 11% of all reported incidents, second only to attacks on the public administration sector. Most of the attacks were related to Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS), which causes disruption, but they often have limited long-term impact. Other significant risks for the sector include malware, social engineering, data breaches, and information manipulation. The report notes that cybercriminals are increasingly focusing on supply chain attacks, targeting interconnected systems and digital infrastructure. The report recommends organisations and businesses to implement robust cybersecurity strategies, especially considering that cybercriminals are leveraging AI tools to create more convincing phishing emails and generate malicious code.

ENISA urges businesses to adopt a proactive approach to cybersecurity to safeguard data integrity and mitigate risks, noting the importance of continuously adapting to the changing cyber threats.
