EC SEEKS INPUT FOR CONTINGENCY PLAN FOR FREIGHT TRANSPORT

The European Commission opened on 31 August a public consultation to help shape the upcoming contingency plan for freight transport. The objective of the contingency plan for transport will be to ensure crisis preparedness and business continuity in the transport sector.

The contingency plan aims to establish a “crisis manual” that will include relevant actions to mitigate any negative impact on the transport sector, passengers and the internal market in the event of a crisis. The consultation seeks to gather day-to-day experiences of the freight transport sector in coping with the COVID-19 pandemic. Stakeholders can evaluate the crisis coordination at EU and national level, as well as the effectiveness of the measures taken to mitigate the effects of the pandemic, such as the Green Lanes, the extension of certain licenses and authorisations for transport operators or the relaxation of some rules (driving and resting times, airport slots…).

CLECAT is in the process of drafting its response in close cooperation with its members.

The public consultation is open until 26 October and available via this link.
